Reading With Hesitations

Sometimes a learner may read accurately but with hesitations. Fluent, flowing oral reading is important and should be encouraged from the beginning.

Have the learner re-read the same story until it is read fluently (read smoothly and with confidence). If the learner's intonation, pace, or smoothness seems to be a problem, model fluently reading the story to the learner, then have the reader try to match your model.

Or Practice reading earlier Sprout Stories until reading is fluent. When re-reading "Read with Me Stories," point out your pace and tone.
